WC/EC 2026 Location update #2 | IDNIYRA - Europe

This is a quick update. A more detailed one will follow later.

Poland

Jamno (Bad News)

News from Jamno are not great, and the likelihood of it being selected as a WC/EC sailing site has decreased.

  • The usable area has become smaller due to newly formed cracks.
  • The size of the sailing area becomes problematic if the wind direction is north–south (or the opposite).

Turawskie (Also Bad News)

Weather forecasts predict temperatures up to +10°C in Turawskie — not good.

You may draw your own conclusions about Turawskie being selected. It is not ruled out, but now unlikely unless forecasts change.

Positive Developments

Wielmine

Wielmine remains a viable option, and Polish ice scouts continue monitoring it.

  • Ice is thick
  • Lake is large enough
  • Not dependent on wind direction

One risk factor: some racing days are predicted to have very strong winds — but this applies to nearly all sites currently being monitored.

New Site: Krynica Morska

A new site in northern Poland, Krynica Morska, is now being checked and monitored. More details will follow.

Other Countries

Sweden

We have positive reports from the Uppsala region.

Estonia

Saaremaa has sailable ice. The area is not huge, but may still be considered.

Finland

Finland is out. Predicted snowfall is expected to ruin most potential sites.

Summary

The situation remains unstable, and predicting our final location is still difficult. There are many options, but each has its own risks. I still hope that Poland, as the organizing country, will provide the conditions we need.

I expect to give you my next report late on Tuesday.
