EDIT: 17.02.2025 (Lake in Estonia corrected)
Since the last updte the situation has evolved as follows:
FINLAND:
Southen Finland inclluding both Säkylä and Vääksy was hit by some snow fall on Sunday. The snowcover is light powder snow and both lakes are still sailable although situation is currently less than ideal.
Weather forecast for the next days will be minus degrees during both days and nights. Next day with plus degrees looks to be friday. After that temperatures are preducted to be warmer which means that the snow cover will grow smaller and eventuallly disapear.
The ice at Säkylä is better quality, smoother and thicker compared to that in Vääksy. Therefore Säkylä remains the primary choice ot of the potential venues in Finland.
SWEDEN:
In Sweden several lakes has good strong Ice. Roxen, Hjälmaren and Karlstad included.
The lakes in Sweden got hit by some snow too and forecast is basicallly the same as for Finland with warm weather during the EC that will kill the snow.
ESTONIA
Vörtsjärv remains the main option in Estonia. Situation pretty much the same as Finland and Sweden. Some light snow on the ice. Warm temp forecasted that will killl the snow.
BOTTOM LINES:
Finland and Säkylä Remain our Plan A and procentages remain the same as in the previous situation rapport.
As temperatures are predicted to be warm during the EC week I believe the current snow will disapear. And I predict Ice thicknes may become a desisice factor. Therefore I currently like North better than South and Säkylä remains our PLAN A.
With the information I have today I foresee good winds during the EC. I foresee wet and fast Ice. I predict a good week of Sailing. I foresee many smiling faces 🙂
